Apple Watch Series 7 also features a user interface optimised for the larger display, offering greater readability and ease of use, plus two unique watch faces — Contour and Modular Duo — designed specifically for the new device. With the improvements to the display, users benefit from the same all-day 18-hour battery life,1 now complemented by 33 percent faster charging.
The stunning display of Apple Watch Series 7 offers nearly 20 percent more screen area and thinner borders at just 1.7 mm — 40 percent smaller than those on Apple Watch Series 6. Through an innovative design that maximises the screen area while minimally changing the dimensions of the overall case size, Apple Watch Series 7 is available in 41mm and 45mm sizes. While the wrist is down, the Always-On Retina display is up to 70 percent brighter indoors than that of Apple Watch Series 6, making it easier to see the watch face without having to lift the wrist or wake the display.
Fitness
Activity and workout tracking are some of the most fun parts of Apple Watch! Closing your Move, Exercise, and Stand rings keeps you motivated throughout the day. With two new Workout types in watchOS 8, you can track almost any way you exercise, and see it all in the Fitness app on iPhone.
Activity tracking
Apple Watch shows your daily movement as three simple metrics: Move, Exercise, and Stand. Together they make up the Activity rings that track your progress all day long. The goal is to close your rings each day, and Apple Watch is designed to motivate you every step of the way.
Activity trends
In addition to being able to share your activity or challenge a friend to a friendly competition, with Activity trends, you can see how your activity metrics are trending over a longer period of time with the Fitness app on your iPhone.
It compares your progress over the last 90 days with the last 365 across a variety of familiar metrics, like active calories, standing hours, exercise, and more. If you’re trending down in an area, the app offers coaching to help get you back on track.
Ultimate workout partner
Measure all your favourite workouts with Apple Watch—including cycling, yoga, strength training, swimming, hiking, dance, and now with watchOS 8, even Tai Chi and Pilates. Set workout-specific goals, see your metrics, and track your progress over time in the Fitness app on your iPhone.
Runners get advanced features like pace alerts and cadence. Swimmers get workouts for Pool Swim and Ocean Water Swim, and now for bikers, watchOS 8 will detect when you begin riding and remind you to start a workout. And it will automatically pause and resume if you stop temporarily. watchOS 8 also provides improved cycling workout algorithms that more accurately calculate calories for e-bikes.
Durability
Apple Watch Series 7 is the most durable Apple Watch that we have ever built. Innovations that helped deliver the largest always-on Retina display also helped to make our strongest front crystal yet. In addition, it is our first Apple Watch that is both IP6X dust-resistant as well as swimproof, which means you can take Apple Watch Series 7 anywhere you want to go.
Our most crack-resistant crystal
Apple Watch Series 7 features our most crack-resistant front crystal, thanks to its thicker profile and stronger, more robust geometry. In fact, the front crystal is over 50 percent thicker at its tallest point than that of Apple Watch Series 6, adding incredible strength. The crystal has also been redesigned with a flat base, creating a sturdier shape that is more resistant to cracks.
Dust-resistant
Apple Watch Series 7 is the first Apple Watch to be certified IP6X dust- resistant—the highest certifiable level of dust protection. This means it can withstand dust and particles from a windy day, the sandbox, or kicked up while on a mountain bike trail.
Swimproof
Like previous models, Apple Watch Series 7 is rated WR50 for 50-meter water resistance, to accompany you to the pool, ocean, or shower.
Health and wellness
Apple Watch has evolved into an invaluable guardian for your health and wellness. Features like ECG, the Blood Oxygen app, high and low heart rate notifications, fall detection, cycle tracking, and noise alerts have had an impact on the lives of millions.
Blood Oxygen sensor and app
Like Series 6, Apple Watch Series 7 features a sensor for measuring blood oxygen. The back crystal features four clusters of green, red, and infrared LEDs, and four photodiodes perfectly spaced and isolated between them.
During a Blood Oxygen measurement,2 the LEDs shine red and infrared light through your skin onto the blood vessels in your wrist. The photodiodes capture the light that is reflected back to detect the colour of your blood. The colour of your blood indicates the oxygen level—bright red blood is more saturated, dark red blood is less. An algorithm then uses that data to estimate your oxygen saturation level.
On-demand measurements can be taken with the Blood Oxygen app, and the Blood Oxygen feature will also periodically measure your blood oxygen level throughout the day, when you’re not moving, and overnight when you enable sleep mode. All blood oxygen data will be viewable in the Health app. You’ll be able to track trends over time and see how your blood oxygen levels change with elevation or environment.
